As “native born” Texans from Amarillo, Texas we feel right at home as valley residents after living here since June 2004. Living and working in different overseas areas since 1973 dictated the need to soften the culture shock upon retirement age as we purchased our first ever house in 1994. Retirement, then, seemed far enough in the future for there not to be a concern but we knew “roots” must be established before hand and were on a mission to find the perfect place. That place was 1010 Michigan Street, Laguna Heights, Texas

Living in the lower Rio Grande Valley is no longer new to me as since leaving America in 1973, returning to America June 2004 this is the place we’ve lived the longest.  My intention in becoming a teacher was to have a way to integrate myself into the community.

I’d enjoyed moving often, a bit of a gypsy, so NOT moving was a challenge for several years.  The urge to move has had to be satisfied by moving furniture.

Isla Blanca County Park on South Padre Island, TX is home for the seasonal “winter Texans”…December 14 began my 10th year to teach yoga at the park.  Each year I’ve felt joyful as people returned, some who keep in touch with me throughout the year.  Many practice yoga year long and continue to bloom in their practice.

Fall of 04 I began having classes on sections of decking in our back garden, view of the bay and on Spring 06 officially opened Asian Garden.  Fall 08 erected a yurt in the front yard of our home.  The yurt is great, most of the time…heat is not a factor, cold, windy weather can force cancellation of classes.

My local students are a constant positive force in my life.  Some have had a yoga practice for many, many years, being totally aware of the benefits of the practice.  A few have immersed themselves in yoga challenges.  New years resolutions/intentions have been to continue down a yogic path and wanting more.  I’m inspired by everyone and privileged to share my practice with quality human beings.

In past employments I excelled, made good money and felt honored with awards.  Yoga, I will never master.  But do I need to?  No!  Could be I feel this way because I was mid 50 when Yoga came into my life to STAY.  I don’t expect to be perfect.  In fact, imperfection was becoming attractive to me.  The transformation obvious to me…loved my life.

Meditation keeps me balanced and in harmony with ME. In the fall of 2003 I read it is best for one to practice yoga 10 years before becoming a teacher.  At that time I did not understand such thinking but absolutely do now and AGREE.  Now, past the 10 year teaching mark, still in the womb.  It’s OK…we are all learning together, as students.
